The Design

The Design for this site has been developed over some time of observation and interaction. It is also a living design and will be guided by the feedback loop of the work happening. We will observe our actions on the land and allow the feedback from it to guide us forward. We are always learning and evolving ourselves and our actions.

This project began as a student design for a group of Permaculture students taking the Permaculture Design Certification course at the Randall Museum in San Francisco, summer of 2008. The design they did is very good and well thought out. At the beginning they consulted with the SF Permaculutre Guild and a general visioning was done on what functions the site could serve.

One of the principles of Permaculture design is the stacking of functions. In other words, how many purposes can we cram into each element of the design. This sort of thinking leads to efficient use of resources for maximum yield. The general vison for the site is posted on the HOME page, and this list will be allowed to evolve as more functions are stacked.

Above all, we intend to adhere to the three primary ethics of Permaculture. These are:

  • Care of the Earth - Provision for all life systems to continue and multiply
  • Care of People - Provision for people to access those resources necessary to their existence
  • Setting Limits to Population and Consumption - By govenring our own needs, we can set resources aside to further the above principles.
At the left, you will see a menu listing the design documents. Each link leads to an article describing that particular facet. More will be added as needed and each article is a living document which will evolve along with the project. These articles are the base design plan for the site. This is a collaborative effort and your input will be regarded. This is a Permaculture Garden and all inputs will be viewed through the Permaculture filter.
